Glass Beach; Fort Bragg, CA This is “Glass Beach” in Fort Bragg, California. The beach resides at the end of the cliff, and although, today it is part of a state park, that was not always the case. In 1949, the site was a unregulated dumping ground, where people threw glass, appliances and even the odd car. This went on for 18 years until 1967 when the North Coast Water Quality Board and city leaders closed the area and removed some of the larger articles dumped there. Over the course of a decade or two, the sea worked its magic by cleaning the beach and by sculpting the remaining glass into smooth, colored trinkets which we can see today.
